Unconditional Tamim Iqbal of Bangladesh believes that the next one-day International series in Sri Lanka will be a great challenge for an exhausted Tigers squad.
Tamim, who will lead the team on the tour after regular captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza was ruled out by an injury, was among the seven players who would leave for Sri Lanka on Saturday.
Taijul Islam and Taskin Ahmed will join the Indian tour party and then the five players who are in Bangladesh 'A' duty after the first one-day match against Afghanistan's 'A'.
Speaking to reporters at the airport, left-handed starter Tamim highlighted the absence of four key players, including Mashrafe, and said: "I think this series is very important to us."
"The team has a lot to prove, some experienced cricketers are missing on the side due to injury and other reasons, so I think this series will be a very challenging series."
Tamim, who leads Bangladesh in a series for the first time, expects contributions from each of his players in the quest for the victory of the Tigers.
"If the players on the team can take advantage of the opportunity that has been given to them with both hands, then it will benefit the Bangladesh team and themselves as individuals."
"We did not play the kind of cricket that we expected in the World Cup, now we have a new challenge ahead, I hope for a good result."
After a lean World Cup, the talisman opener worked on his batting with the team's High Performance Unit coach and former Indian starter, Wasim Jaffer, in preparation for the tour of Sri Lanka.
